Introduction Working Principle of Cartridge Filters Applications Structure and Components (1) Filter Cartridges: Made of outer, inner, and middle layers. The inner and outer layers are covered with metal mesh or hard plastic nets, while the middle layer is folded filter material. A sub-micron ultra-thin fiber layer is attached to the general filter material, providing a very tight clearance (0.12–0.6 μm). This structure allows for a large effective filtration area due to intensive folding. (2) Cabinet: The shell of the dust collector includes the gas tank and ash hopper. The gas tank provides cleaning space and ensures even airflow distribution, while the ash hopper collects the filtered material. (3) Ash Removal Mechanism: Includes blow pipes, pulse valves, and air bags. When the dust on the filter surface reaches a certain thickness, it is removed. Compressed air is used to pulse the filter cartridges, shaking off the dust, which then falls into the ash hopper and is discharged. Cartridge filters are advanced dust collection systems that use cylindrical filter cartridges as the primary filtration element. They are an innovative solution for air purification and industrial powder (smoke) dust removal, built upon the principles of pulse bag filters. These systems offer high air volume, low operating pressure (0.2–0.6 MPa), and low resistance loss (800–1000 Pa), making them highly efficient and user-friendly. With advanced technology, a compact design, and compliance with strict emission standards, they are ideal for reducing space requirements, capital investment, and operational costs.
A cartridge filter consists of a cabinet, filter cartridges, and a cleaning system. When dusty air enters the unit, the sudden expansion and air distribution plate cause larger particles to settle in the ash hopper due to gravity and inertia. Smaller particles are then captured in the dust filtering chamber through mechanisms such as Brownian diffusion and sieve filtration. As dust accumulates on the filter surface, the resistance increases. Once a set threshold is reached, the system stops the airflow, opens the electromagnetic pulse valve, and uses compressed air to clean the cartridges by causing them to expand and vibrate, dislodging the dust. The collected dust then falls into the ash hopper and is discharged through the discharge valve.
Cartridge filter dust collectors are widely used in various industries, including blast furnace blower inlets, oxygen generators, air compressor inlets, control room gas dust removal, clean workshops, public building air conditioning inlets, and low-concentration flue gas dust removal. With ongoing advancements in materials and dust removal technologies, their applications continue to expand. Today, they are commonly found in construction materials, metallurgy, power generation, food processing, and chemical industries. They are increasingly replacing traditional bag filters and electrostatic precipitators due to their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
The main components include the filter cartridges, the cabinet, and the ash removal mechanism.
