Firefighters responded to a three-story condominium building located at 715 W. Central Road in Mount Prospect before 5:30 PM on Monday after reports of a fire in a top-floor unit. The first arriving unit reported heavy smoke and quickly upgraded the alarm to a working fire Code 4. The fire started in a rear corner unit and spread to the mansard roof, with flames visible from the outside. As a result, a Box Alarm was called, bringing in mutual aid from several local fire departments. The blaze was contained within the original unit just 20 minutes after the fire department arrived. According to the Daily Herald, a resident was rescued from a third-floor balcony during the incident, which left 12 apartment units uninhabitable. One firefighter from Mount Prospect suffered minor injuries and was taken to Alexian Brothers Hospital for treatment, as confirmed by Battalion Chief Henry Dawson. ABC News shared a neighbor's photo showing the fire from the rear of the building. Additional images from the scene can be viewed here.
