A BMW 3 Series GT-based vehicle successfully demonstrated three major functions, including automatic lane change, making BMW the first luxury car brand to demonstrate this feature in China.
In the designated section of the expressway of the Sichuan Railway Industry Investment Group Corporation, which is about 35 kilometers long, BMW China’s highly self-driving vehicles are in the range of 0-120 km/h without the active intervention of the driver. A series of complex actions including automatic lane keeping, automatic vehicle following, and automatic lane change have been completed autonomously. It is worth noting that the vehicle can decide to change the lane behavior according to the real-time condition of the road.
The vehicle is distributed around the body of the vehicle to obtain environmental data in real time. Through a built-in high-precision artificial intelligence system, the vehicle can select the most suitable lane in the real environment, maintain automatic driving, and perform precise automatic lane change. overtake. Up to now, under the supervision of professional drivers, BMW has completed more than 8,000 kilometers of highly automated driving roadshows in China, including closed and public roads.
In China, the main challenge of BMW's highly automated driving research is localization, which comes from the complex and varied roads and traffic conditions in China. While analyzing a large amount of basic data, artificial intelligence systems need to further deduct algorithms to adapt to the behavior habits of different traffic participants, as well as different standards including infrastructures such as traffic lights and traffic signs in China.
