Karl Klotz recently shared some interesting updates about the fleet changes within the Grant Park Fire Protection District (FPD), which operates under MABAS Division 7. According to him, last year, the district took over a former engine from the Beecher FPD. This vehicle is a 1996 Pierce Saber model rated at 1250 gallons per minute (GPM) for pump output and 750 GPM for water capacity. It was renumbered as Engine 404 when it served with Beecher but now operates as Engine 110 under Grant Park FPD. Replacing the older unit is a 1982 Ford C8000 chassis paired with an E-ONE 1000/1000 configuration, which had been Engine Co. 110 until its retirement. The transition highlights the ongoing effort by Grant Park FPD to modernize their firefighting resources while preserving cost-effective solutions like acquiring pre-owned apparatus. Attached images provide a visual overview of these vehicles. The first photo shows the Beecher FPD's original Engine 404, now proudly serving with Grant Park. Another image displays Engine 110 in its current state, clearly indicating how it continues to play a vital role in the community’s emergency response system. A third picture captures the outgoing model, a 1992 Ford C-8000 coupled with an E-ONE 1000/1000 setup, marking the end of an era but also symbolizing progress. These photos were taken by Karl Klotz, who often documents such transitions to keep enthusiasts informed about local fire department activities. His work not only preserves historical records but also helps foster pride among firefighters and residents alike. It’s always fascinating to see how smaller departments manage to maintain efficient operations despite limited budgets, especially when they rely on refurbished equipment like this Pierce Saber. Overall, these changes reflect strategic planning aimed at ensuring reliable service without compromising safety standards. As communities grow, so too must their ability to adapt and evolve—something these updates perfectly illustrate!
