Working fire in Winthrop Harbor, 9-23-20

Beach Park, Newport, Zion, and Pleasant Prairie, WI, joined forces with Winthrop Harbor to respond to a major garage fire at 207 Oakdale Ave. Zion 1811 was the first on scene and found smoke coming from a metal pole barn garage, but no visible flames initially. Upon further inspection, firefighters discovered that the fire had already spread into the rafters. However, they faced challenges entering the structure due to heavy storage inside the garage. As the situation escalated, command upgraded the incident to "Working Still," bringing in additional units from Great Lakes and Gurnee to assist.

The fire was eventually brought under control after several hours of intense effort by the crews involved. The location, a residential area with multiple structures, made the operation more complex, requiring coordination between multiple departments. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the property suffered significant damage. Jeff Rudolph captured several photos of the scene, showing the extent of the fire and the efforts of the firefighters on the ground.
