World Fertilizer Agriculture Conference Held in Kunming
The International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) has once again chosen China as the host for a major industry event, underscoring its growing interest in the Chinese market. The World Fertilizer and Agriculture Conference, which kicked off in Kunming on February 28, brought together over 250 participants from more than 40 countries. This gathering highlights the global recognition of China’s pivotal role in agriculture and fertilizer development.
The conference focused on the theme “Optimizing Fertilizer Resources, Using Chemical Fertilizers Effectively, and Promoting Sustainable Agricultural Development.†It attracted significant attention not only from domestic chemical fertilizer companies but also from provincial agricultural offices and the “three stations†responsible for agricultural technology. This broad participation reflects the importance of the topic in shaping future agricultural strategies.
During the event, IFA will release a forecast on global chemical fertilizer demand. Chinese government officials will provide insights into current agricultural policies, development status, and future trends, particularly during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan†period. They will also discuss economic policies and fertilizer-related strategies. Nearly 30 experts from both China and abroad will present their research and findings, offering valuable perspectives on production, usage, and policy development.
Li Yongwu, president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, and Li Xinhua, vice governor of Yunnan Province, emphasized in their opening remarks the importance of promoting scientific fertilization in agriculture. They expressed hope that through discussions and exchanges with global experts, China’s fertilizer industry would move toward more sustainable and efficient practices. This meeting marks a step forward in enhancing collaboration across production, usage, trade, and international cooperation.
This event in Kunming is the first special meeting of the IFA Agricultural Committee to be held in China. However, it is the third time in six years that IFA has hosted its most important conference in the country. Previous events included the International Fertilizer Production and Trade Conference in Shanghai in 2000 and the World Chemical Fertilizer Production Technology Conference in Beijing in 2004. Like these earlier conferences, this one was jointly organized by the China Chemical Construction Corporation and the IFA, reinforcing the strong partnership between the two organizations.
