This is a report from Eric Haak: At 12:00 PM today, I was just outside of Engine 109's station. The 14th Battalion conducted a size-up of a two-story ordinary furniture store measuring 25 by 80 feet. There was a fire on the first floor, and the entire store was packed with furniture from floor to ceiling and front to back. Five minutes into the incident, a "box" was called for. When I arrived, there was visible fire on the second floor, and crews were working to clear out the contents of the first floor. By 12:55 PM, Engine 2-11 was called in for additional manpower to help with the removal. The alarm was eventually escalated at 1:30 PM. Eric Haak photo Eric Haak photo Eric Haak photo Eric Haak photo Eric Haak photo It was a tough call from the start—everything was stacked so high that visibility was limited, and the fire spread quickly through the tight-packed items. Firefighters had to work carefully to remove the contents while still managing the blaze. The scene was chaotic but well-coordinated, with multiple units responding and working together. It’s always a challenge when the fire is in a commercial building filled with flammable materials. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the fire was brought under control before it could spread further. These types of incidents remind us how important quick response and good communication are in firefighting.
