Zurich, Switzerland, September 18 news: ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has announced that ABB has introduced several new applications for the marine market in order to help fuels of all types significantly reduce fuel consumption. These consulting system software includes the latest version of the ABB Marine Energy Management System (EMMA) and Amarcon's Octopus solution.
ABB said that the integration of advanced software, electronic systems and Azipod® thrusters will help shipowners reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%. Thanks to the recent acquisition of Amarcon, while minimizing fuel consumption and environmental impact, ABB is now able to provide a power and automation solution that will help shipowners improve production efficiency and ship safety vertical integration.
For the first time in history, the daily operating cost of a ship has exceeded its daily construction cost. Fuel consumption has become one of the highest operating expenses and the biggest environmental problem for every ship in the global fleet. Fuel accounts for 30-40% of the cost of operating a cruise ship, accounting for 50-60% of the cost of operating most merchant ships. Simply reducing fuel consumption by 1% means that a medium-sized bulk carrier can save $50,000 a year, and a large container ship can save $300,000 a year.
In general, fuel savings have become a requirement for ship operators. A ship that integrates power, automation and consulting systems can save up to 20% on fuel consumption, which represents an absolute competitive advantage. ABB's new consulting and automation system portfolio has a full range of marine information and control technologies to help ship managers monitor and calculate the best use of onboard power.
