The Countryside Fire Protection District has been conducting a series of training exercises for several weeks at 27693 Chevy Chase Road in Mundelein. The homeowner generously offered their home for fire training, with the understanding that it would be fully burned down to make way for a new construction project. Local photographer Dan McInerney captured some impressive shots of the new Rosenbauer Centurion engine and tender from US Tanker, which you can view here.
Last Sunday, the district opened the event to the public, inviting local residents, neighboring fire departments, CERT volunteers, and anyone interested in witnessing a controlled burn. Among the attendees was photographer Larry Shapiro, who had the chance to capture some stunning images of the new Rosenbauer engine against the backdrop of the burning house. A full gallery of photos is available here, with a video coming soon.
Fire departments from Wauconda, Long Grove, and Libertyville brought their tankers to ensure a steady water supply. Notably, the Libertyville tanker—a 1988 Pierce Dash 1250/2500—was recently transferred to them by Countryside and has since been re-lettered for Libertyville service.
