Jeff Rudolph made another cross-border trip on Thursday to cover a fire in Wisconsin, where he provided the following detailed account: Pleasant Prairie, WI dispatched Box 56-01 to a fire at Dejno’s Inc., located at 7533 75th St. Upon arrival, flames were visible from a rooftop hopper unit used for loading sawdust. Winthrop Harbor, IL sent a crew to relieve the Pleasant Prairie Station 1, while Newport 1415 was dispatched to the scene. Additional mutual aid units arrived from Bristol, Somers, Kenosha, and Salem. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated and released on-site. Due to the nature of the fire, extensive overhaul was required to ensure all smoldering dust was fully extinguished. The fire appeared to be contained to the industrial structure, but the risk of rekindling was high due to the combustible materials involved. Firefighters worked diligently to ventilate the roof and apply water to the affected areas. Multiple apparatus from different departments were seen working together, showcasing the strong regional cooperation in emergency response.
