On May 16, the 2013 China Automotive Aftermarket Development Forum hosted by China Automotive Parts Industry Corporation was held in Kunshan.

Leaders and experts from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China International Chamber of Commerce, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, and China Automotive Technology and Research Center, as well as representatives of auto parts companies and financial institutions at home and abroad, came together to discuss in depth the status of China’s auto aftermarket. Problems, solutions, and related policies.

China's auto market has just started small

Huang Yonghe, chief expert of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, spoke on the theme of “Developing the Automotive Aftermarket and Promoting the Upgrading of the Industrial Chain”.

“In general, within the life cycle of each vehicle, its use cost is about 2-3 times the vehicle price, so the automotive aftermarket is the most stable source of profit in the automotive industry chain, accounting for about the total profit of the automotive industry chain. 60% to 70% of the car market. Therefore, the automotive aftermarket has also been referred to as 'the gold industry'." Huang Yonghe said.

In terms of promoting employment, Huang Yonghe uses Japan as an example: In 2010, Japan’s automobile-related employment population accounted for 8.5% of Japan’s total employed population. Among them, the automobile use department, sales and maintenance department, and other related departments representing the automotive aftermarket accounted for the employment of automobiles. 80% of the relevant employed population. ”

Ning Xiaoyang, chief engineer of China Automotive Parts Industry Corporation and president of SAIC Automotive Parts & Accessories Co., Ltd. pointed out that China's auto aftermarket business is still in its infancy, similar to the level of the United States in the 1980s.

Compared with foreign mature automobile aftermarket, China's auto aftermarket scale and the proportion of the entire automotive industry is obviously small. In addition, China's auto aftermarket still has problems such as unsound service models, imperfect standards and regulations, unreasonable distribution of service outlets, low industry entry barriers, lack of effective supervision by the government, and proper guidance.

Chain operation or maintaining and maintaining mainstream business

Overall, China's auto aftermarket has great potential for growth. Some experts predict that the size of China's auto aftermarket will exceed that of the United States in 2015 and become the world's largest automotive aftermarket country.

Ning Xiaoyang also predicted in his speech that with the gradual maturity of consumers, more and more policy support, and the influx of more new companies, the scale of related businesses in the automotive aftermarket in China will also erupt into 2015. The previous annual growth rate will reach 24%.

Ning Xiaoyang mentioned that according to statistics, the current average age of passenger vehicles in China is about 3 years, and it is expected to reach 6 years in 2020, and it will begin to enter the peak period of bicycle maintenance costs; with the amount of possession and age of vehicles. Growth is expected to reach 520 billion yuan in 2020 in China's aftermarket spare parts market.

As far as the field of car aftermarket maintenance and repair is concerned, the current automobile repair and spare parts related businesses in China are mainly based on 4S shops and designated maintenance points from manufacturers. Warranty and extended warranty are important means for obtaining customers. The maintenance and repair market is extremely fragmented, with fast-growing and conservation chain stores showing rapid growth, and other business developments will be weakened, especially roadside fast repair shops.

At present, American automobile service chain operators account for more than 80% of the total aftermarket, while the 4S shop service system only accounts for 20% of the market. Ning Xiaoyang speculated: "If we learn from the development experience of the US aftermarket, the integration of China's automobile maintenance and repair market may be about to begin. Specialized chain management services will develop rapidly and gradually become the main body of the market."

Ning Xiaoyang analyzed that there are five advantages to the chain operation model: scale effect, standardization and transparency, precise market segmentation, brand effect, and value-added services. At present, one-stop supermarkets and small specialty stores are the successful chain business models in China's auto maintenance and spare parts markets.

The shortage of talent reserves is a key factor that restricts the development of the automobile maintenance industry. It should actively consider how to establish its own training base or establish cooperation with manufacturers.

Lack of laws and regulations restricts modified vehicles

And car rental development

Ning Zhenxing, executive chairman of the China General Motors Refitting Subcommittee, expressed his concerns about parts and components of the modified car market in his speech on the topic of “high-end brand car upgrades and customization programs”. He called on the government to formulate laws and regulations as soon as possible, After market modification standardization.

It is reported that automobile modification is an important part of the automotive aftermarket. At present, the conversion of automobile is still focused on the production of deep-processing and trade-type conversions in China. The market share of consumer-oriented conversion for user needs only accounts for 10%, and the current road traffic. The scope of regulations for the expansion of consumer-type installations is very small, market supervision is difficult, and the possibility of introducing regulations and regulations in the short term is also small.

Ning Ching-hsing predicts that consumer-type retrofits will remain marginal to existing laws for at least three years.

Yang Jisheng, general manager of China Import & Export Automobile Trading Co., Ltd., pointed out in his speech on the “Current Status and Trends of the Current Car Rental Industry in China” that relevant policies have been issued but the regulations are still not supporting and have become a bottleneck restricting the development of China’s car rental industry. one.
