Two wind turbines, each standing 68 meters tall and with a diameter of 64 meters, have recently been installed in Xiaowutai, Youyu County. The first batch of power generation is expected to start soon, marking a significant breakthrough in wind energy development in Shanxi Province.
Located at an elevation of over 1,600 meters above sea level, the Xiaowutai Wind Farm sits in a unique geographical position where the Siberian cold air flows from northwest to southeast. The area features a low and open terrain, making it one of the rare valleys in the country that offers ideal conditions for wind power generation. The dominant wind direction is from the west, and the region boasts abundant wind energy resources.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate 69.5 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This will help save approximately 24,700 tons of standard coal and significantly reduce emissions. Specifically, it could cut dust emissions by 240,000 tons, carbon dioxide by 12,400 tons, sulfur dioxide by 42,000 tons, and nitrogen oxides by 20,240 tons each year. These reductions are crucial for improving air quality and supporting sustainable economic growth.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the Xiaowutai Wind Farm is also set to become a key attraction for eco-tourism in Youyu County. With its convenient transportation access and distinctive natural landscape, the site is expected to draw more visitors and contribute to the local economy. This project not only highlights the potential of renewable energy in China but also showcases how green development can go hand in hand with tourism and regional growth.
