I just witnessed an apartment fire on 317-321 West Evergreen Street in Chicago. The smoke was thick and rising high into the sky. It’s quite a sight, though I wish it wasn’t happening. I’ve taken several photos of the scene with my phone.
The first image shows the heavy smoke billowing out of the building. You can see how intense the situation is even from the outside. Another shot captures the firefighters arriving in full gear, their presence offering some relief amidst the chaos. In one picture, they’re administering oxygen to a dog that seems to have been caught in the confusion. It's heartwarming to see them taking care of not just people but also animals.
There’s also a photo of Engine 22 from the Chicago Fire Department parked right outside the building. They look ready to tackle anything. Squad 1 is there too, standing by as backup. It’s impressive how quickly they mobilized.
In another image, you can see a cat being rescued from the building. I’m glad to hear that everyone made it out safely, including pets. It’s moments like these that remind me of the bravery of our local firefighters. They truly put themselves in harm's way for others.
This whole event has been unfolding right before my eyes, and I hope all residents affected get the help they need. It’s devastating to see property damage, but the safety of the people and pets involved is what matters most. I’ll make sure to share these images with the authorities if needed.
