ABB introduces the new universal mechanical frequency converter ACS350
ABB's new universal mechanical drive, the ACS350, is designed to streamline installation and commissioning with features like FlashDrop technology, sequential programming, an intuitive user interface, and cabinet-compatible hardware. It supports up to 7.5kW of rated power, making it ideal for a wide range of OEMs and system integrators looking to reduce machine assembly time and improve efficiency. This next-generation frequency converter is built to simplify motor control while delivering reliable performance in various industrial applications.
One of the standout features is ABB's patented FlashDrop technology, which simplifies parameter setup and configuration. With a handheld FlashDrop unit, users can quickly and securely download key parameters to the drive, even when it’s not powered. The device can store multiple parameter sets, each of which can be named for easy identification based on the application or end user. Additionally, the FlashDrop unit can connect to a PC for expanded storage or for editing and creating new parameter sets. Its user-friendly design eliminates the need for technical expertise, making it accessible to a broader range of users.
Sequential programming is another standard feature that allows users to create predefined operating sequences without requiring additional drive options. This is particularly beneficial for basic applications where motor control is managed through sensors and limit switches. By reducing the reliance on external PLCs, this feature helps simplify system design, lower costs, and improve overall efficiency.
The user interface offers greater flexibility, allowing users to customize their experience. While the control panel is not included in the standard configuration—since it’s primarily used during debugging or troubleshooting—users can choose between two types: a basic control panel or an assistant control panel. Both are detachable, enabling users to reuse them across multiple drives, which helps reduce long-term costs and improves operational convenience.
The ACS350 also includes built-in EMC filters and brake choppers, ensuring compliance with industry standards and enhancing reliability. Its compact design makes it one of the smallest 400V inverters in its class, with a 0.75kW model being especially space-efficient. It supports DIN rail mounting, allowing multiple units to be installed side by side without requiring extra clearance. In tight spaces, the drive can even be mounted on the back of a cabinet. The lightweight construction, with even the 7.5kW model weighing just 2.5kg, makes it easier to handle, transport, and install. The drive also provides IP20 protection, offering a level of durability suitable for most industrial environments.
Available in three configurations—single-phase 200V (up to 2.2kW), three-phase 200V (up to 4.0kW), and three-phase 400V (up to 7.5kW)—the ACS350 is well-suited for a variety of mechanical applications, including food processing, material handling, textiles, printing, rubber and plastics, and woodworking.
