At approximately 11 AM, the Palatine Fire Department began receiving multiple calls reporting smoke and signs of fire coming from an apartment located at 1213 Longvalley Drive. Given the volume of emergency calls, the battalion chief quickly escalated the response level to a working fire status while the responding units were still en route to the scene.
I happened to be nearby when the first alarms sounded and managed to capture some images of the unfolding situation. The initial reports suggested that someone might have been trapped on the third floor of this three-story building. However, upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy smoke billowing out of a window belonging to a basement-level unit. They swiftly mobilized and managed to bring the flames under control within just a few minutes.
