At around 11 AM, the Palatine Fire Department began receiving multiple calls reporting smoke and signs of a fire coming from an apartment located at 1213 Longvalley Drive. This address is in an unincorporated part of their district near Rand Road. Due to the volume of calls, the battalion chief quickly upgraded the alarm to a working fire status even before the emergency units had fully reached the location.
I happened to be nearby when all this unfolded and managed to capture some photos of the situation. The initial reports indicated that someone might have been trapped on the third floor of the three-story building. However, upon the firefighters' arrival, they found thick smoke billowing out of a window on the basement level instead. Fortunately, the fire department acted swiftly and managed to bring the flames under control in just a short amount of time.
One of the most striking sights was how the smoke was visibly escaping through the stairway at 1213 Longvalley Drive. It was clear that the situation was serious, but thanks to the firefighters’ prompt action, it didn’t escalate further. As part of their protocol, they also ensured that all building residents were evacuated safely. Some of them were even taken to an awaiting ambulance for a medical check-up, just to be on the safe side.
