This evening, the Berwyn Fire Department received a call about a fire in an alley located on the 7000 block of 34th Street. A local resident, Josh Boyajian, who lives in Berwyn, shared his firsthand account along with some images of the incident:
"When I stepped outside my home, I could see a massive plume of smoke rising into the sky. By the time the Berwyn fire units arrived, they discovered a boat that was fully engulfed in flames. It was sitting on a mobile trailer behind someone's house. The boat was still under construction at the time. Berwyn companies quickly got to work, deploying two lines to tackle the blaze. Interestingly, North Riverside provided mutual aid by sending their resources."
Attached are several photos taken by Josh Boyajian that capture different moments during the firefighting efforts. In one image, you can clearly see the large plume of smoke visible from blocks away as firefighters rushed to control the situation. Another photo shows the fully involved boat on its trailer right after the fire department’s arrival. The next image highlights how intense the fire had become before firefighters managed to start dousing it with water. One picture captures the rapid response where the fire was brought under control even before the second hose line was activated. There are also shots showing equipment like hoses deployed by both Berwyn Engine 903 and Berwyn Quint 901, which played crucial roles in extinguishing the flames.
These images not only document the severity of the fire but also illustrate the efficiency and teamwork displayed by the firefighters on site. It’s always impressive to witness such coordinated efforts in action!
