This evening, the Berwyn Fire Department responded to a fire that broke out in an alley located on the 7000 block of 34th Street. A local resident, Josh Boyajian, who hails from Berwyn, shared his account along with some images of the incident.
According to Boyajian, as he stepped outside his home, he noticed a massive plume of smoke rising into the sky. Upon arrival, the Berwyn fire crews discovered a boat engulfed in flames, which was in the middle of renovations. It was parked on a mobile trailer behind the house. Two fire hoses were deployed to combat the blaze. Interestingly, the neighboring department from North Riverside provided mutual aid during the operation.
Attached are several photos taken by Boyajian that capture the intensity of the situation. In one image, the boat is seen completely ablaze, with flames licking every surface. Another shows the rapid response of the firefighters as they worked diligently to extinguish the flames before they could spread further. Despite the severity of the fire, the team managed to bring it under control swiftly, minimizing damage to the surrounding area.
The first picture reveals a towering plume of smoke visible from blocks away, highlighting just how intense the fire was.
