The Chicago Fire Department is set to acquire a brand-new NFPA Type III Fireboat, replacing their current vessel, the Victor L. Schlaeger, which has been in service for over six decades. This state-of-the-art fireboat will be engineered and constructed to operate efficiently throughout the entire year in Lake Michigan, the Chicago River, and nearby harbor areas. Its primary roles will include responding to fires, rescues, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) incidents, hazardous materials decontamination, dive operations, and various other water-based emergencies.

**Construction Progress (June 11, 2010):**
The construction of this fireboat is currently right on track. Most of the hull structure has now been put together, and the hull plating has been installed. Simultaneously, the aluminum deckhouse is also being assembled, ensuring both durability and functionality.
**Construction Progress (March 1, 2010):**
Work on the fireboat officially kicked off in February 2010. The steel sections required for the hull have already arrived at the shipyard, and the initial assembly of the hull structure is well underway.
**Contract Award (August 3, 2009):**
Hike Metal Products was awarded the contract to construct this NFPA Type III Fireboat for the City of Chicago back in June 2009. Construction commenced in 2010, with the delivery expected in 2011.
