The latest iteration of Bender’s CC613 charge controller has been specifically designed for integration into AC charging stations (Mode 3), adhering to the standards set by DIN EN IEC 61851-1 and IEC 62955. Recently, the Association of Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies e.V. (VDE) officially validated this compliance, presenting the world’s first certification for a charge controller. This milestone not only underscores the reliability and innovation of the CC613 but also streamlines the certification process for wall boxes and stationary charging stations operating under Mode 3.
The certification encompasses the complete product line of the CC613, ranging from the basic "Home Basic" model suitable for straightforward home charging, to the advanced "Home Energy Management" variant that integrates seamlessly with energy management systems for PV-powered home charging. Additionally, there are "Fully-Connected" versions equipped with OCPP and 4G modems, facilitating compliant billing under calibration laws.
One standout feature of the CC613 is its integrated and patented 6 mA DC residual current detection system, as per IEC 62955. This innovative technology eliminates the need for an external RCD type B, marking it as a distinct advantage over other solutions on the market. The power circuit, tested alongside a switching element from Eaton Industries GmbH, ensures compliant charging up to a performance class of 22 kW.
Dennis Haub, Bender’s standardization manager, expressed his pride in achieving this qualification before the normative transition period ended. He highlighted that the CC613’s RDC-MD and RCD type A offer a cost-effective alternative to the more expensive RCD type B, significantly reducing the expenses associated with installing charging infrastructure.
Winfried Möll, Bender’s CTO, emphasized the benefits for customers utilizing the certified solution in their Mode 3 charging stations. He noted that the certification brings about substantial simplifications and savings.
