As the global workforce undergoes rapid transformation, the World Economic Forum predicts that approximately 1 billion people will need to reskill by 2030. This unprecedented shift presents a significant challenge across all sectors. Many industries are grappling with an aging workforce combined with a shortage of younger workers stepping in to fill crucial roles. Compounding this issue, automation is reshaping the job market, creating demand for entirely new sets of skills. Consequently, countless positions remain unfilled despite the availability of jobs, highlighting a widening skills gap. Recognizing this urgent need, Autodesk is spearheading lifelong learning initiatives to equip workers with the skills necessary to stay competitive. The future of work has arrived, and automation is no longer a distant concept but a present reality. We're committed to supporting our clients as they seek the expertise needed to excel in their respective fields. Today marks the official launch of the Autodesk Certification Program, which introduces eight new industry-focused learning pathways and certifications. These programs aim to assist professionals throughout their continuous education journey, with more certifications and courses slated for release next year. Designed to empower both newcomers and seasoned professionals, the program enables individuals to develop and verify their skills, setting them on a path toward achieving their educational and career aspirations. Certifications are available for specific products, such as the "Revit Structure" certification, as well as broader roles and workflows, like the "Fusion 360 Mechanical Design" certification tailored for mechanical engineers and machinists. Our role-based offerings will adapt over time to reflect emerging trends and evolving industry demands, ensuring professionals stay ahead. For more than 15 years, Autodesk has collaborated with workforce training centers to provide product-specific certification through traditional exam formats. However, as technology evolves at breakneck speed, so too must our approach to learning and certification. I recently spoke with Jaime Perkins, who oversees learning strategy at Autodesk, about our efforts to reinvent the certification process. "We recognize that advancements in technology, particularly artificial intelligence, are drastically altering the industries we serve. These changes profoundly impact workers," Jaime explained. "When the pandemic struck, we observed an 800% surge in visits to our self-paced learning resources, confirming it was the perfect moment to expedite our program's growth. With this new platform, we're adopting a fresh perspective on certification—one that seamlessly integrates skill acquisition into daily tasks, connects workers to a broader community, and propels them on a lifelong learning trajectory." Learners can access the single sign-on platform anytime, fitting seamlessly into their schedules. New Role-Based Certifications Highlight Enhanced Competencies We’re increasingly observing that the manner in which our tools are utilized depends on the individual’s role. For instance, no single position calls for mastery of every feature within a tool. Our role-based offerings take these distinctions into account, allowing professionals to gain certification in specific roles—such as mechanical engineer—rather than just a particular product, like Fusion 360. Our role-based learning pathways and certifications enable workers to develop, showcase, and communicate their newfound competencies in ways that resonate with employers. Initially, our role-based certifications will align with Fusion 360, focusing on core workflows in the industry. This includes an emphasis on computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), design for manufacturability, and the groundbreaking introduction of generative design certification. Learning Pathways Prepare Workers for Both Exams and Careers Through the Autodesk Certification Program, we’ve crafted self-paced, modular learning modules that map out each user's distinct learning journey, culminating in certification. We understand that learning is deeply personal and have structured our program to cater to varying skill levels, workflow applications, roles, and career ambitions. This ensures our clients can embark on a learning path suited to their needs—on their terms, at their convenience. Courses will cover diverse topics, ranging from skill enhancement and workflow optimization to preparation for specific certification exams. Upon completing a series of courses or earning a certification, users will receive personalized badges that can be added to resumes, portfolios, and professional networking profiles, showcasing their accomplishments to peers and potential employers. Corporate Training Infrastructure Last year, we collaborated with Monitor Deloitte to investigate the underlying causes of the skills gap and strategies to help workers adapt in the age of automation. A key takeaway from this research was that businesses must reduce the gap between learning and application by integrating learning directly into the workplace. However, most companies lack the infrastructure to implement effective training systems. Autodesk certifications and learning pathways assist businesses in reskilling their existing workforce through embedded, timely learning opportunities. This ensures that their talent pool remains equipped to handle evolving demands, keeping their firms robust. Additionally, industry certifications can aid companies in making more informed hiring decisions by targeting candidates who have successfully passed our industry-aligned certification exams. Reskilling is Essential for Economic Success In the upcoming year, as remote work persists and safety measures intensify due to the ongoing pandemic, the reliance on digital tools and automation will continue to grow. This shift necessitates new skill sets for professionals and job seekers alike. Reskilling and upskilling, alongside successful organizational digital transformation, are vital to the prosperity of the global economy. To celebrate the launch of our new certification program, for each Fusion 360 user who completes one of our new certifications post-AU, we will donate to Humanmade, an Autodesk Foundation partner organization. Their Next Generation Manufacturing Program is San Francisco’s inaugural advanced manufacturing workforce development initiative, focused on equipping low-income Bay Area residents with skills for the future of work. Automation technology serves as a pivotal force in helping businesses and societies meet the escalating demands of a burgeoning and urbanizing global populace. While it brings about job disruption, it also presents an opportunity for workers to adapt. We are dedicated to ensuring our current and future clients thrive in this era of automation and societal change. Our new certification program represents another step in fostering lifelong learning for the most sought-after skills of tomorrow, cultivating a resilient, equitable, and prosperous workforce.
